Is the stock market open on Columbus Day?

The answer to this question is no. The stock market will be open Monday, October 9, for the annual holiday. However, bond traders will get an extended weekend, with the bond market closed on Monday. Unlike some holidays, however, there are no early hours for bond traders ahead of Columbus Day, with regular trading hours on Friday, October 6.

What are stock market holidays?

Stock market holidays are non-weekend business days when the two major U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, are closed for the day. These days often closely follow federal holiday schedules and include major holidays like Independence Day and Thanksgiving.

Are stock markets open on Columbus Day & Veterans Day?

While bond traders take the day off, equity markets will remain open for business. The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will both be open regular hours. Columbus Day and Veterans Day are the two federal holidays when stocks continue to trade.
